María Teresa Andruetto

Photo: Carolina Podlesker

María Teresa Andruetto is a highly acclaimed Argentine writer. Themes such as the construction of individual and social identity, the aftermath of dictatorship in her country, and the female universe are central to her work. Her books, read by both adults and young readers alike, break down generational barriers. Compared to the writing of Annie Ernaux, Andruetto surprises with her malleable adaptation to the spirit of each text. A reference point for women's writing in her country, her name is also indispensable in literature for children and young people, and she has received, among others, the Hans Christian Andersen Award (considered the Little Nobel). She was also responsible for closing the International Language Congress in 2019 with a masterful speech. She is capable of conveying with the utmost clarity complex reflections that cut across art, the public sphere and the formation of readers.
