Armando Romero

Armando Romero (Cali, Colombia, 1944) is a poet, fiction writer, and literary critic belonging to the initial group of nadaísmo. He has lived in many countries in both the Americas and Europe. He earned his doctorate at Pittsburgh and he currently lives in the United States, where is professor emeritus at the University of Cincinnati with the title of Charles Taft Professor. He has published many books of poetry, fiction, and essays. In 1991, while living in Greece, he wrote his novel Un día entre las cruces. In 1997 his novel La piel por la piel was released in Caracas. In 2008 he received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Athens, Greece. In 2011 he won the Premio de Novela Corta Pola de Siero (Spain) for his novel Cajambre (Bogotá, Valladolid, 2012, translated into Greek, Danish, French, Turkish, Italian). His book of poems Amanece aquella oscuridad was published in 2012 in Sevilla, Spain. In 2016 his book of poems El color del Egeo was published in Spain and Colombia. Also in 2016, L’Harmattan press (Paris) published a bilingual anthology edition of his poetry, and in 2017 an anthology of his poetic work was published by DA press in Bulgaria. In 2018 Difácil press of Spain published an extensive anthology of his poetry, and Sinopia press of Venice, Italy published his book of short stories La radice delle bestie. Also in 2018 he was honored as a national poet at the Festival de Poesía de Bogotá. A broad anthology of his poetic work was distributed throughout the country. In 2019 the Italian translation of his novel La rueda de Chicago, which had received the 2005 Latino Book Award for Best Adventure Novel at the New York Book Festival, was published by Sinopia press in Venice, Italy. In 2021, New York press ArtePoética published a bilingual anthology of his poems, From the Air to the Hand.
