Alfredo Jocelyn-Holt is a historian. He earned his D.Phil. from Oxford and his B.A. and M.A. at Johns Hopkins. He holds a law degree from the Universidad de Chile, where he is a professor. He has been a visiting professor at the universities of Cambridge, Roma Tre, Salamanca, and Chicago (Tinker Professor). He is the author of La Independencia de Chile, El Peso de la Noche, El Chile Perplejo, Historia General de Chile (three volumes), La Escuela Tomada, La Casa del Museo, and La Historia en Disputa: Reflexiones y debates. He was awarded the Premio Municipal de Literatura in 1999, 2005, 2009, and 2016.
