This is Herman Brooks. Herman is just like the rest of us. Everyday he has to make all kinds of decisions like what to wear, whom to date and when to panic. Now these decisions should be easy but if you take a look inside Herman’s head, you’ll see why he sometimes has trouble making up his mind. Sometimes they agree… usually they don’t. But the struggle is going on inside all of us and it’s all going on inside Herman’s head.

Wanted to get myself a new cell phone so I could hear myself as a ringtone.

Who knew the store would go and check my credit score? Now all they let me have is this dinosaur! Hello hello hello, can anybody hear me? I know I know I know, I should have gone to Free Credit Report dot com! That’s where I should have gone, could have got my knowledge on.

There are those who believe that life here began out there

Come and knock on our door. We’ve been waiting for you. Where the kisses are hers and hers and his, three’s company, too! Come and dance on our floor. Take a step that is new. We’ve a lovable space that needs your face, three’s company, too! You’ll see that life is a ball again and laughter is callin’ for you. Down at our rendezvous, three’s company, too!

There are those who believe that life here began out there… far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians or the Toltecs or the Mayans. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens. Fleeing from the Cylon Tyranny, the last Battlestar – Galactica – leads a rag-tag fugitive fleet on a lonely quest. A shining planet, known as Earth.

Love, exciting and new. Come aboard, we’re expecting you. Love, life’s sweetest reward. Let it flow, it floats back to you. The Love Boat soon will be making another run

Once in every lifetime, comes a love like this. Oh I need you, you need me, oh my darling can’t you see. Young Ones. Darling we’re the Young Ones. Young Ones. Shouldn’t be afraid. To live, love, there’s a song to be sung. Cause we may not be the Young Ones very long. Sunny day, sweepin’ the clouds away. On my way to where the air is sweet. Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street? Come and play, everything’s A-OK. Friendly neighbors there, that’s where we meet. Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?

Love, exciting and new. Come aboard, we’re expecting you. Love, life’s sweetest reward. Let it flow, it floats back to you. The Love Boat soon will be making another run. The Love Boat promises something for everyone. Set a course for adventure, your mind on a new romance. Love won’t hurt anymore. It’s an open smile on a friendly shore. Yes, love! It’s love! Moon over Parma, bring my love to me tonight. Guide her to Cleveland, underneath your silvery light. We’re going bowlin’ so don’t lose her in Solon. Moon over Parma, tonight!

Extracts from a Conversation with Victoria de Stefano

By Arturo Gutiérrez Plaza, Victoria de Stefano

But isn’t it true that the subject is always constructed, that there’s something outside that menaces it, that the subject is taking refuge through writing, making its own story?
