Sheltered from the Rain

Gray-blue Andean sky
rest risk-free
on the sharp crest of the immense mountains,
while I sip coffee
or chew coca leaves
sheltered from the rain
yet illuminated by a slight ray
that strayed from the sun.

From Acerca de la palabra imán (Hijos de la lluvia editores, 2020)

XLII

You ask yourself, at the end of the day,
after you have measured the cord, the height, the abyss.
After you were certain you wouldn’t blame anyone.
After you were certain you wouldn’t remember anyone.
Is that a sound?
Some lament / cry / sigh that needs attending?
They’re simply ways of seeing the same thing.
Rummaging around in thoughts
as one sniffs around sewage.
Impossible not to hide tranquility,
Antigone,
now that you hang up.

From No es este tu reino (Editorial Navaja, 2025)
