ISSUE 30.
JUNE, 2024

In our thirtieth issue, we delve into a little-known facet of a towering figure of Latin American letters with a cover feature on renowned Argentine author César Aira, focusing not on his own writing but on his broad-ranging career as a translator. We also shine a spotlight on a globally relevant genre that is changing both what and how the world reads with a special dossier on Latin American young adult literature. Along with these features, we present the winning essay of our second annual literary essay contest (“Imperceptible Anatomies” by Mexican writer Guillermo Fajardo), a meditation on Chileanness from Gabriela Mistral, writing by and about 2020 Neustadt Prize winner Ismail Kadare of Albania, and reflections on Black and Indigenous identity from Brazil. The issue closes with exclusive book reviews, previews of forthcoming books in translation, reflections on the translator’s craft, and the second installment of our ongoing collaboration with literary podcast Hablemos, escritoras.
