Gioconda Belli (Managua, 1948) is one of the foremost Nicaraguan writers of her generation. She is internationally renowned as a poet, novelist, and essayist. Her books translated into English include The Inhabited Woman, The Country Under My Skin: A Memoir of Love and War, Infinity in the Palm of Her Hand, The Scroll of Seduction, Waslala, and The Eye of the Panther. Among many other awards, in 2023 she received the thirty-second Reina Sofía Ibero-American Poetry Prize, granted by Spain’s Patrimonio Nacional and the Universidad de Salamanca. An important critic of the Ortega-Murillo regime that now controls her home country, she lives in exile in Spain.
