Johnny Payne

Johnny Payne is a novelist, poet, dramatist, essayist, and translator with over twenty published books.  His most recent novel, Confessions of a Gentleman Killer, won the IBPA Gold Medal.  He has done ethnographic work in Quechua, and published a study in literary translation, Conquest of the New Word, with University of Texas Press.  His translation of Teresa Porzecanski’s novel Invención de los soles, with University of New Mexico Press, was nominated for Best in Sephardic.  His She-Calf and Other Quechua Folk Tales has been cited in numerous studies and anthologized regularly. Under the nom de plume Étienne d’Abattoir, he published a book of essays on French poetry.
