Lina Meruane

Lina Meruane (Chile) has published two books of short stories and five novels in Spanish, one of which has been translated into twelve languages. In English her two latest novels are Nervous System (Atlantic, UK; Graywolf, US) and Seeing Red (Atlantic, UK; Deep Vellum, US), both translated by Megan McDowell. Meruane has also written several nonfiction books, among which are her essay on the impact of the AIDS epidemic in Latin American literature, Viral Voyages (Palgrave MacMillan, 2014), a literary memoir on her Palestinian origins, Volverse Palestina, a lyric essay, Palestina por ejemplo, a feminist pamphlet entitled Contra los hijos, and most recently, an essay book on blindness, Zona ciega. She has been the recipient of the Anna Seghers Prize (Germany, 2011), the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Novel Prize in Mexico (2012), the Calamo Otra Mirada (Spain, 2016), and the British Valle Inclán Prize for translation, among others. She has received grants from the Guggenheim Foundation (US) and the National Endowment for the Arts (US) and been a DAAD Writer in Residence in Berlin (Germany). She currently teaches Global Arts and Cultures and Creative Writing at New York University.
