Verónica Jaffé

Verónica Jaffé (Caracas, 1957) studied letters in Caracas and earned her doctorate in German literature in Munich. She has worked as a professor at several Venezuelan universities, and as an editor, essayist, and translator. She has published a number of essays on Venezuelan literature and the theory and history of translation, as well as the poetry collections El arte de la pérdida (1991), El largo viaje a casa (1994), La versión de Ismena (2000), Sobre Traducciones (2010), Friedrich Hölderlin: Cantos Hespéricos. Traducción y versiones libres (en lienzos y poemas) de Verónica Jaffé (2016), De la metáfora, fluida (2019), and Fugaz lagartija (2024). Her book lo animal si poema won the XXV Premio Casa de América de Poesía Americana. As a visual artist, she “translates” poems into images. She has shown her visual poems in Caracas, Vienna, and Madrid.
