Susi Bentzulul

Susi Bentzulul is a Tsotsil Maya poet and translator from San Juan Chamula, Chiapas. She completed a bachelor’s degree in Cultures and Languages at the Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas and a master’s degree in Feminist Interventions and Studies at the Centro de Estudios Superiores de México y Centroamérica (UNICACH-CESMECA). She has received prestigious fellowships, including from the Embassy of the United States in Mexico to study at the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program (2021) and from the Fondo Nacional para las Culturas y las Artes (FONCA, 2019-2020). Her literary awards include the Premio Estatal de la Juventud in the category “Fortalecimiento a la Cultura Indígena” (2021) and the Premio Nacional a la Promoción de los Derechos de las Mujeres Indígenas “Martha Sánchez Néstor” (2022). Tenbilal Antsetik = Mujeres olvidadas (2022) is her first book. Her work has appeared in numerous collective publications and digital magazines such as Tierra Adentro, Punto de partida (UNAM), and Circulo de Poesía, among others. She was an “Educadora de Calle” at Melel Xojobal A.C., working with Indigenous children to promote, defend, and exercise their rights between 2017 and 2019. She also taught the virtual workshop “Poesía en Lenguas indígenas” at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL, 2022).
