Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez

Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez is a leading voice in contemporary Venezuelan fiction. His prolific and innovative prose is recognized in Venezuela (finalist for the XII Rómulo Gallegos Prize and winner of the Book Sellers Prize) and in Spain (Premio Tiflos, Barbastro International Prize, Premio Ateneo de la Laguna), where he’s been living since 1996. His unique thrillers Los maletines and La ola detenida have been published in French (Editions Métailié), and his short fiction in English appears in Latin American Literature Today and Crude Words: Contemporary Writing from Venezuela. His most recent novels include Román de la isla Bararida and La Montaña de los siete tambores.
