Josefina Plá

Josefina Plá was a prolific twentieth-century Paraguayan poet, playwright, journalist, art critic, and historian. Born in the Canary Islands in 1903, Plá arrived in Asunción in 1927 with her husband, ceramicist Julián de la Herrería, quickly becoming an integral part of the Paraguayan art and literary scene, working in various media and genres until her death in 1999. Plá broke barriers by her presence in the field, her innovative perspective, and her focus on women’s issues, especially in her fiction. Her prominence in Paraguayan arts and letters had an impact on the tendencies of her times and inspired later generations.
