Astrid Cabral

Astrid Cabral, a leading Brazilian poet and environmentalist, grew up in the Amazon. She is the translator of Thoreau’s Walden into Portuguese. She has won a dozen literary awards in Brazil and her poems have appeared in over thirty magazines in the United States. Two prior books in the USA are Cage (Host Publications, 2008) and Gazing Through Water (Aliform Publishing, 2022). Her poem “Manaus Once Again” was featured in The New York Times on October 4, 2020. The poems in this issue are drawn from Spotlight on the Word (World Poetry Books, 2025).
