Ahmel Echevarría Peré

Ahmel Echevarría Peré (Havana, 1974) is a novelist and critic. Echevarría began writing after completing a degree in mechanical engineering and is recognised as one of Cuba’s most talented contemporary writers. His work appears in numerous anthologies and his novels have received some of the most prestigious literary awards in Cuba and the world.  His most recent books include: Búfalos camino al matadero (2013, José Soler Puig Prize 2012); La Noria (2013, Italo Calvino Prize 2012);  Días de entrenamiento (2011, Franz Kafka Prize 2012); and Caballo con arzones (2018), which won the 2017 Alejo Carpentier prize.
