Wilfredo Hernández & Barbara Riess
 | Barbara Riess is an award-winning translator and Professor of Spanish and Translation at Allegheny College. Her collection of stories from Cuban author María Elena Llana, An Address in Havana / Domicilio habanero, won the International Latino Book Award for Best Translation of Fiction in 2016. Along with scholarly publications in Latin American Literary Review and Cuban Studies/Estudios cubanos, her other translations include two Chicano novels by Margarita Cota-Cárdenas, Puppet and Sanctuaries of the Heart (with co-translator Trino Sandoval), and selections in Spain: A Traveler’s Literary Companion, Cuba On the Edge, Cuba Counterpoints, and Latin American Literature Today. |
 | Wilfredo Hernández (Porlamar, Venezuela, 1963) teaches Spanish at Allegheny College, Pennsylvania, where he is currently chair of the World Languages and Cultures department. He holds an undergraduate degree in Modern Languages from the Universidad Central de Venezuela as well as a master’s and a doctorate in Hispanic Literatures from the University of Connecticut. He has published on Rómulo Gallegos, Armando Rojas Guardia, Eugenio Montejo, Isaac Chocrón, and Elio Palencia. His articles and reviews have appeared in academic journals in Colombia, the United States, and Venezuela. He has also published chapters in edited volumes from university presses in the United States and the Netherlands. From 2022 to 2024, he worked as book reviews director of the Revista Iberoamericana. |
