Arteaga<\/h5>\n<h6><sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0Chuqik\u2019iraw, or \u201cChoquequirao\u201d in Spanish, is the name of an Inca archeological complex, located above the Apurimac River in Cusco, Peru. The Inca ruler Topa Inca Yupanqui built Chuqik\u2019iraw during the fifteenth century. This\u00a0 ceremonial center was also a citadel in which the Incas of Vilcabamba resisted the Spanish invasion in the first decades of the sixteenth century.<\/h6>\n<h6><sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0K\u2019intu refers to the coca leaves used in Andean rituals.<\/h6>\n<h6><sup>3<\/sup> According to Andean colonial chronicles, Pachakama means \u201cThe Maker of the Universe.\u201d<\/h6>\n<h6><sup>4<\/sup> \u201cMother Earth\u201d in the Quechua language.<\/h6>\n<h6><sup>5<\/sup>\u00a0In the original, the author uses \u201chuertuykiman\u201d in allusion to the Spanish world \u201chuerta.\u201d<\/h6>\n<h6><strong>Photo:<\/strong> Choquequirao Archaeological Park, Cusco, Peru.
